Description:

In this session, Bob Larrivee will present some recent statistics from the AIIM Industry Watch reports on ERM and discuss how organizations need to recognize that records management practices should embrace and include electronic records as part of their overall records management program. Just as physical records require retention, security and disposition policies the same applies to electronic records. Bob will show how critical this area is, given the current mandates to produce electronic information as part of discovery and the more recent federal mandates that all patient records be made digital with provisions to manage, track and report on their status should a breach of information occur. Bob cites that the first step in all of this should be a realization that records are records regardless of format and they need to be addressed as part of the “total” records management program.

Bob will also lead an panel of end users who are either using Electronic Records now or interested in transitioning to electronic.

Panel Members:

Juanita Philips has 10+ years of experience managing records at law firms throughout

the Chicago area and is currently undertaking several records management projects at

Loeb & Loeb. During her time in the records management profession she has overseen

the implementation and application of numerous retention schedules as well as

the use of various databases and software tools to assist with making records and information

more easily accessible.

Connie Schumacher was the Associate Clerk for Records Management at the Office

of the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County. While working in that capacity she

performed inventories of both electronic and paper records, established a records

management program, and developed and directed the implementation of electronic record keeping systems.

Erin Vandenberg is the Director of Records Management at DePaul University . She has several years of experience managing records in both government and higher education settings and has seen first-hand the reluctance to and the difficulties with implementing a large-scale electronic records management solution.
